what's important is not the record type part (e.g. gmst:), but rather that the record number in both files is supposed to be the same. but in a regional language version of the game, the record number from falloutnv.esm would be different (i.e. 0017bcb1 in the german version).
when i turned off the english language pack for the german version, and installed the english version, my character's "real name" was listed in a german textbox on the character screen when i chose to have my character's real name shown.
i've done enough sleuthing to determine that the default language is the language pack. i then changed the language for all of the folders/files in c:\users\<your username>\documents\my games\falloutnv\data, and the game works fine now.
the game can be patched to allow more than 4gb of memory to be used. there are three methods: • upgrade the game to 220.127.116.11 (install executable using the autorun function on the first time you install the game. that should be the only time you need to patch the game. this is the most reliable method for this task, so it is recommended that this be your method of choice.) • the original game-patch, v1.1 (apply this patch to the game. it will overwrite the original v1.1 patch file. this method is not recommended, as the game-patch is a temporary solution. it may not work if the game-patch is applied to a version of the game that is not in the game-patch release version.) • the patch for new vegas, v1.2 (apply this patch to the game.)
many thanks to the russian fans of the game (and possibly also to the ukrainian fans for the scripts!) for providing a free, downloadable and easy to install russian language pack for the game. note that this is a standalone download, not a mod. it's standalone because it is intended to be used only with the game. the description of the mod is: 3d9ccd7d82
